Dear Mr Sheppard
I wanted to write before this but I was kept busy with this & that –
It was a real pleasure for us both to see your wife I never met anyone more happy and more convinced that all would go well for you both – She seemd quite untouched by the turn of events which may mean so much change for you – perhaps I shdnt say “untouched” except that her belief in all turning out well was untouched. It was most lovely to see someone as happy & confident.
She came laden with presents – The enchanting native drum hangs on our whitewashed wall & looks just right there – My husband is delighted with it & thanks you very much for it & for the pencils (especially 4Bs) and the lovely fruits.
My thanks too for all – I hope No.6 Symphony will reach you safely.
Let us hear all news – I feel we the know White Cottage now¹

1. Victor Sheppard’s wife Mary was visiting the UK from South Africa. The Sheppards’ home was called The White Cottage. The VWs were sending sound recordings of the 6th symphony to South Africa with Mary.
