September 11 [1930]
Dear Miss Ault
I am very much touched by the kind message from yourself and the Coldharbour Choir. But you are the right person to display the organ when it is completed. I never play the organ now and should certainly not be able to do it justice.
Thank you very much for asking me and I hope that I shall be able to be present at the opening – but as a listener not a performer.
Yours sincerely
R Vaughan Williams
1. The church in Coldharbour, a village near Dorking, had a new organ installed in 1930. See VWL4035 for VW’s account of the opening.
