Dear Mrs Dyer¹
I should love to have written a tune for your Pipe book as I am much interested in the English Pipers Guild – but I am not so interested in Recorders. So if you ever do another Pipe book I hope you will ask me to write you a tune for that.
I hear how kind you have been to Stanley Bate. I believe he has great talent and I hope he will be able to stay out his year with Nadia Boulanger.

1. Louise Dyer was an Australian who had settled in Paris with her husband, but frequently returned to Australia. She formed the British Music Society in Australia in 1920 and later the publishing company L’Oiseau-Lyre in Paris in 1932, which published some of the then best Australian music.
2. The Melbourne Centenary Music Book of Piper’s Music by Australian Composers was published by Dyer to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of Melbourne’s foundation in 1934.
