Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Kathleen Riddick
Letter No.: VWL3695
From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.
January 22nd 1957.
Dear Miss Riddick,
There is a report that you have threatened to withdraw a concerto engagement for Miss Vera Kantrovich with your orchestra if she plays in the Bach Double Concerto at the Dorking Festival. I cannot believe that such unmusicianly and ungenerous conduct can be true of you. I think the best way of scotching this rumour would be for you to write direct to Dr Cole saying that it is all a mistake, and that you are delighted that Miss Kantrovitch has been invited to play in the Bach double Concerto at the Dorking Festival. I am sending a copy of this letter to Dr Cole.
Yours sincerely
Signed R. Vaughan Williams
