Dear Dent
Do you remember RenĂ© Gatty who was up in our time – I expect you do. He has been for some years Reader in English at Prague University – he is now homesick & has given up his job & is coming back to England – he will therefore be out of a job – do you think there is any chance of work for him at Cambridge – he knows German like English & Bohemian to a certain extent also – I wondered if there was any opening for a teacher of languages at Cambridge – he wd also be good at Librarians’ work – He wd be a great assett1 to your town & he is a very good & keen musician (also by the way a first rate composer in the light style – & I think may still one day make his mark that way) – He is a delightful person & a genius in his way & worth helping to keep in England.
Yrs very truly
R. Vaughan Williams
