Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Arnold Barter

Letter No.: VWL1921

The White Gates,
Dorking.

July 6 [?1944]

Dear Barter

Thank you so much for your helpful letter
– I understand that the Sibelius aid committee are trying to get him some cigars from America so I shall hold my hand for the present.1
I hardly ever go away from here now – but if I am ever near Bristol you may make sure that I shall not miss an opportunity of shaking your hand.
Yrs

R. Vaughan Williams

1. VW had met Sibelius in 1921 (R.V.W.: a biography, p.139) and subsequently had some indirect contact with him in 1944 in connexion with the dedication to him of the Fifth Symphony (VWL1865). See also VWL1920.
