My Dear Bessy
It was very dear of you to write – I do wish you could hear it1 – It is all very quiet & not at all like the one before – I thought Foss2 did an almost impossible task very well.
I must tell you that we have had happy letters from the Löwenbachs who are in New York – He is quite well again and is doing journalistic work on a Czech paper published in New York

1. The Fifth Symphony to be performed the next evening, 24th June, at the Albert Hall.
2. Hubert Foss, former manager of the Oxford University Press Music Department. This may refer to a talk given by Foss on Saturday June 20th on the BBC Home Service, about VW’s Fifth Symphony. The musical illustrations were played on two pianos by Hubert Foss and Alan Richardson.
