Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Rachel Fell
Letter No.: VWL1416
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
April 18 [1940]
Dear Miss Fell
Would it be a good plan for me to give you a lecture on modern English songs – but this would mean at least an hour with illustrations and I should want good singers who would probably have to learn several new songs for me.
If you want something shorter and slighter – say ½ an hour – please choose between ‘English Folk Song’ and ‘Music in wartime’. A really good folk song singer would be useful for the folk song lecture, but if that cannot be obtained I should prefer to have no illustrations.1
Yours sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams
