The White Gates,
Dorking, SURREY.

13th October, 1949.

Dear Mr. Hutchinson,
I wish I could come on October 16th but I have got to be here in Dorking on that day. Please give my best wishes to your performers.1
I remember the South Place concerts from old days when I lived in London. They were splendid programmes and a wonderful audience.
Yours sincerely,

R Vaughan Williams

1. South Place Concerts presented a 77th birthday concert for Vaughan Williams at the Conway Hall. The Aeolian String Quartet, with René Soames (tenor) and Alan Richardson (piano), gave the G minor and A minor String Quartets, the Viola and Pianoforte Suite Group 1, and On Wenlock Edge. Hutchinson was assistant to Alfred J. Clements, Honorary Secretary of the Ethical Society, who organised the concert series.
