That was a lovely notice of Gerald’s tune, both for him & for Howardie – I am so glad it was like that.¹
I write from the country, my aunt died on Wed. & I’m executor & all that – She was so glad to be off & had been trying for ages! – but its the end of a chapter.
Ralph is well – writing songs for the Blake film.²

1.  Howard Ferguson’s orchestration of Gerald Finzi’s Fall of the Leaf had been performed by the Hallé orchestra on 11 December, in lieu of a commission from Finzi for the centenary of the Hallé which had been unfulfilled because of the composer’s death.
2.  The Vision of William Blake (1958), for which VW composed the Ten Blake Songs (CW 1957/5).
