Dear Michael
Good. If there is an Edinburgh performance1 next year, as we have heard rumours of & if it’s good, then they might. I wish New York would: but the Garden2 notices were obviously bad in the USA. & I would love it if he could have a real blinding success somewhere with it, as he minds so much. So do I.
Love from us both. I haven’t showed it as it’s still a bit remote. What does John3 think of it, I wonder?4

1. i.e. of The Pilgrim’s Progress (Catalogue of Works 1951/1). The Edinburgh performance did not come to pass.
2. i.e. the notices of the premiere of The Pilgrim’s Progress at Covent Garden.

4. Michael Kennedy had proposed to the Decca Record Co. that they should consider recording The Pilgrim’s Progress, and received the response that they had no plans at the time, but would place his suggestion before their International Selection Committee. He had forwarded the letter to VW.
