Letter from Ursula Vaughan Williams to Michael and Eslyn Kennedy

Letter No.: VWL2822

From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.

May 30th [1954]

My dear Eslyn & Michael,

I can’t remember your Worcester plans, if any.  I murmured something to Meriel Kittermaster about your coming, & found this when I got back yesterday.1 Could you send a p.c.?2  So sorry to bother you.  We had a wonderful holiday, Florence, Sienna3 & Rome, ½ days at Pisa  & San Geminano,4 & a glimpse of Orvieto – just time to see the Cathedral – the bus journey all down Italy was terrific – & most lovely.  We enjoyed ourselves enormously, but it is nice to be home again.

Love from us both to you both

P.S.  I haven’t mentioned yr letter to R. as nothing from Hallé yet.  I think the rehearsal problem will make it too difficult – but he will decide.

Ursula

1.  UVW enclosed a postcard from Mrs Kittermaster, College Green, Worcester: ‘Not a word from your friends about the Three Choirs.  Do tell them to hurry up – I am keeping a very nice double-room for them, but can’t do it much longer.  Hope all is well.  Love to R & yourself.’ In the event the Kennedys drove to Worcester for the concert and back the same day.
2.  i.e. a postcard.
3. sic.
4. i.e. St. Geminiano.
