September 18th [1955]
We have had a marvellous time – all very hot, lots of flowers and Samian wine. We have been driven all over the place on amazing – winding roads and up mountains to Mycenae, Tiryns, Epidaurus, Nauplia, Patras, Corinth, Olympia – & over the Rion ferry, & over the mountains to Delphi where Ralph rode a pony to call on Apollo & we drank from the Castalian spring! Then from Athens by sea to Crete, and now we are here on a delightful island where all the houses are white, & the sea deep blue, bouganvillea, morning glory and oleanders in flower. The sea was rather rough so we cut Delos, & loitered here all day & happy.1
Love to you both from us both
