Dearest Joan,
I think it will make it all right if I send it back?  What a nice letter.  As to magic – one can never tell what will work for who, I think, it’s strangely an individual reaction to different spells.
We’ve been with Joy Finzi for a week, and we had a night away as she took us round Dorset, to see the rebuilt Stonehenge, & to see the Giant at Cerne Abbas, to call on Sylvia Townsend Warner, and to look at the sea.  The county is magnificent in its Golden.  Yesterday we picnicked on the Ridgeway, between Wayland Smith & the White Horse in blazing, through temporary, sunshine, & tonight we are going to see Salisbury Cathedral floodlit.
Ralph is weathering a handsome brown with all this open air.
We are so thankful to hear Martin is better, & we both send you both our dear love.
