Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to William Rothenstein
Letter No. VWL691
Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to William Rothenstein
Letter No.: VWL691
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
[?About March 1937]
Dear Rothenstein
I fear I must ask for my screed back.1
I find from a mutual friend that one passage might give him pain – and I naturally do not want to do that to a friend I admire so much.
Yours
R. Vaughan Williams
1. VW had written an appreciation of Donald Francis Tovey to accompany a portrait drawing by Rothenstein published by Faber & Faber in October 1937 in Contemporaries: Portrait Drawings by Sir William Rothenstein with appreciations by various hands. The dating of this letter assumes it was written about six months before publication See VWL1250.
