Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to William McKie
Letter No.: VWL2558
The White Gates,
Dorking,
Surrey.
24th December, 1952.
Dear McKie
About the arrangement of the “Old Hundredth”, I think you are right that it is too elaborate. Besides if the congregation are going to start singing Verse 4 after the choir will sing alone, we shall have to give them a good start.1
I think the Archbishop is liturgically wrong not to have an “Amen” after the Doxology, but of course he must have his way.2
