1. Vinicio Barocas was an Italian astronomer, and at this time was a refugee who had been interned and then released, and was working as a scientist at the Royal Greenwich Observatory, which had relocated to Abinger during the war.  Barocas, an amateur flautist, was married to Winifred Simons, a French teacher & pianist from Dorking.
