Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Vally Lasker
Letter No.: VWL574
London
Jan. 6th 25.
Dear Vally
Here are my & Butterworth’s notes on the L.S.1
Now about playing the scherzo over to me – will you suggest a day next week – afternoon preferably
Not Tuesday after 4.30
Not Wednesday at all
Not Saturday afternoon
Yrs
R. Vaughan Williams
1. Date noted in the hand of the recipient, but perhaps the letter should be dated earlier – 1921 or 1922 (date of publication of Lasker’s arrangement of the London Symphony). Vally Lasker made an arrangement of the London Symphony for pianoforte solo – see Catalogue of Works 1913/5, published in 1922. Why VW was to hear the Scherzo at this date (if Lasker’s noted date is correct) is not clear.
