Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Ursula Wood
Letter No.: VWL1422
[About 27 May, 1940]
My Dear
What about coming down here for lunch (12.30) on Friday 31st [May] – Wednesday you go to your dentist – Thursday I am busy.
It wd be lovely to see you again. I nearly forget what you look like – except that you are very alluring – I know you will put on your prettiest frock to give me pleasure – though of course the pleasure of the intellect is all I really appreciate(!!??). I hope it will be weather for silk stockings & high heeled shoes – but it does not look like it at present.
I liked both the poems & cutting from Vogue – so come, my dear, and allure me on Friday.
Yrs

Wartime paper.
May was the only month in 1940 in which the 31st was a Friday, and it is apparent that this letter was written within a week of that day. -
