Letter No. VWL3384

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to the Treasurer, Leith Hill Musical Festival

Letter No.: VWL3384

From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.

April 13th 1956

Dear Mr. Treasurer,

A short time ago an American Society offered to shut me up in a cage till I had written acceptance. When I refused the honour they converted into a grant of $8,500 (= I am told about  £1750) to be used by me for such worthy purposes as I thought best.1  I should like LHMF2 to share in the spoil.
Yours ever,

R. Vaughan Williams.

1. In a letter to Gerald Finzi (VWL3381) on the same subject VW mentions a different figure; perhaps he set it as the figure he was proposing to give the beneficiary.
