Dear Choirmaster and Members of the Budo Festival Choir

It gave me great pleasure to receive your very nice letter, especially as it contained all your signatures and your photograph.
I am glad you enjoyed singing my motet.¹ I am a great friend of Dr Harold Darke, and I am glad he heard you sing.
I wish you many happy years of singing, and that you will go on from strength to strength.  Perhaps one day my wife and I will have the chance of hearing you sing – perhaps over the wireless, which would be better than nothing.

1. The choir at Budo in Uganda had sung O taste and see, Catalogue of Works 1952/3. The motet was the test piece in the Namirembe Music Festival, which the choir had won.  A letter and photograph from the choir to VW is at British Library MS Mus. 1714/1/21, ff. 126-157
