Dear Mr. Casey,

Thank you for your interesting letter.
I do not quite understand your difficulty over my “Five Tudor Portraits”.  The two big numbers, “Elinor Rumming” and “Jane Scroop” are long because the poems are long, and I daresay you know I have set less than one half the original poem in each set.
I do not think you would find the chorus over heavy in a concert room performance.  Of course, as always it tends to drown the orchestra over the wireless.
Between the people who think my “Hugh the Drover” too modern and those who consider it old fashioned I fall between two stools.
