Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Sir Thomas Beecham
Letter No.: VWL4323
The White Gates,
Dorking
28th April, 1949.
Dear Sir Thomas Beecham
I feel sure that you will realise that it is no disrespect for you or of admiration for your work which will prevent my attending the concert and supper in your honour on May 2nd.1 But these long evenings and late suppers do not agree with my advancing years.
I am very sorry to miss the pleasure of being in the company of Lady Beecham and yourself (to whom I venture to send my kind regards) on that occasion.
Yours sincerely,
R Vaughan Williams
(R. Vaughan Williams).
Sir Thomas Beecham,
c/o The Royal Philharmonic Society,
19, Berners Street,
W.1.
1. A concert and dinner to mark Beecham’s seventieth birthday.
