From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
June 7th [1935]
Dear Sir Sydney Cockerell
Thank you very much for your kind congratulations1.
As to a drawing – I once sat for my portrait & vowed I would never do so again!2
Yours sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams

2. This probably refers to a drawing by Rothenstein which he did not like. In later years he did in fact agree to sit for a drawing, two portraits and a sculpture by Joy Finzi, Gerald Kelly and Jacob Epstein respectively.
