Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Sir Henry Wood

Letter No.: VWL1306

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

June 7 [1938]

Dear Sir Henry

Many thanks for your most kind letter and telegram. I am glad you think the Serenade will not be unfitting for the occasion.1
The score has arrived – Many thanks
Yours sincerely

R Vaughan Williams

1. Probably Sir Henry Wood’s Jubilee Concert on 5 October 1938. VW seems always to have called it a Serenade in correspondence, but until 1 October, quite extensive press coverage called it “Ode to Music”.
