August 23 [1940s]

Dear Mr Logan1
I am very glad you are able to sing Dives & Lazarus for my talk.
The tune is the one out of English Country Songs but it is to be sung unaccompanied.
Would it be all right if you sung it in E minor as the orchestra takes it up later in that key? I don’t suppose they will want more than 3 or 4 …

1.  The tenor Sinclair Logan. The occasion of the talk by VW has not been identified; if it relates to his Five variants on Dives and Lazarus it would be in the 1940s.
