Dearest Simona
How dear of you to send those lovely flowers – I am so glad you are better – I am recovering rapidly – the nurses here are very pretty.
My trouble is that I must have seen Shakespeare’s cat! (See Shylock’s speech in the 2nd act),1

1. VW is referring to Shylock’s speech in (actually) the 4th Act of The Merchant of Venice, Scene 1, 47 ff: ‘Some men there are love not a gaping pig, Some that are mad if they behold a cat; and others, when the bagpipe sings i’ the nose, cannot contain their urine’.
