Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Rutland Boughton

Letter No.: VWL2684

The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey.

13th May, 1953.

Dear Rutland

I wish I could say that I have been responsible for the production of “The Immortal Hour” at Sadlers Wells.   It is almost impossible to believe that it must be a case of pure merit.  It is almost unbelievable in these days – but it must be a case of pure merit!  But anyhow I am delighted it is being done and I shall certainly come to hear it if not the first night one of the later ones.1
When we come to Gloucester we will certainly meet either at your home or in the town.
Yrs
