Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Rutland Boughton
Letter No.: VWL2772
The White Gates,
Dorking,
24th June, 1948.
Dear Rutland
Thank you so much for your letter.1 I am very glad if I have been generous to anybody – it is the least one can do to one’s fellow men.
I much appreciate your appreciation of my work. I hope writing music has not become a bad habit with me.
I wish we could meet and have a talk. We should probably disagree violently over most things, but that would only add a zest to our conversation.
Yrs
R Vaughan Williams
(R. Vaughan Williams).
Rutland Boughton, Esq.,

1. Possibly one of appreciation following the first performance of the sixth symphony.
