Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Roy Douglas
Letter No.: VWL3294
From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.
February 19th 1956.
My dear Roy,
I have had a letter from Alan Frank asking me whether the symphony1 is ready to print, or whether I want to wait to hear another performance. I feel, at present, that I can pass it with those alterations we made in the train, and one addition; namely in the scherzo, the bassoon tune ff, with third bassoon ad lib. and the rest pp. But you know my mind by this time and do you think it likely that I shall, or do you yourself want other revisions?
Yrs RVW
P.S. What a good thing it was that you took your degree in Foretelling, crystal gazing and Cultivation of Second Sight at Salamanca.2 U.
1. Symphony no. 8 in D minor.
2. Postscript added in red by UVW.
