Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Robert Müller-Hartmann
Letter No.: VWL1757
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
April 11 [1943]
Dear Mr Müller Hartmann
Thankyou very much for your discerning & discriminating but kind & encouraging notice of the ‘Passion’1 – I know that the chorus knew their work thoroughly and love it – & that can go very far even if the voices are not first rate & the soloists & orchestra (labouring under extraordinary difficulties) served the cause well & with enthusiasm.
Thankyou once again.
Yrs sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams
1. Bach’s St Matthew Passion performed at Dorking. Müller Hartmann had probably reviwed it in the Dorking Advertiser.
