Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Robert Müller-Hartmann
Letter No.: VWL2900
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
May 20 [1945]
Dear Müller-Hartmann
I have been consulting the authors society & they are of [the] opinion that I have only realized by half the material value of your work. I have been through the score again & seeing more fully the skill, knowledge & mental concentration also the creative effort contained in it that they are quite right.
I fear that it is now too late to undo my quite unwitting discourtesy – but I hope that the enclosed “scrap of paper”1 will at all events technically salve my conscience.
With renewed thanks
Yrs very sincerely
R Vaughan Williams
