[?November 1898 ]

Dear Herr Gatty

I was so pleased to get your letter. Nick1came to supper with us the same evening so we stuck the poster up in a prominent place and let him see it for himself which he did directly he came into the room. I wish we could be there to hear the performance, but we shall wish it good luck.
We are both very much disappointed that we shan’t see you again before you go off to Berlin; can’t you spare an hour or two in London?
I’m much better – but the Doctor won’t let me go out at night yet – which means not doing any of my church work – Nick has been awfully good and helped me a lot.
Try and hear some music in Berlin – it seems so dreadful to be in the very heart of music and not to hear any.
My wife says that the poster is the best ornament in the room. Will you send us any notices of the performance that appear in print.
Yrs always

R. Vaughan Williams
