Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Ralph Wedgwood
Letter No.: VWL141
[?August 1906]
Dear Randolph
You’ve hit the nail on the head – I’m painfully conscious that I can’t do the “C. Major” – when I try it turns out rot. But then you must remember that you are asking of one what only the very greatest people have been able to do – to be “C “Major” without being trivial. Beethoven does it fairly often, Bach & Wagner occasionally, Brahms & Schumann hardly ever. I hope I shall be able to do it one day!
We will arrive by the 6.3. train or whatever it is. It will be splendid coming to you
Yours
RVW
