My Dear Randolph

It was such a pleasure to see your handwriting again after all these years. – I’ve been thinking so often about you – how somehow we were each waiting for the other to move first – I was quite near you once at Montreuil but I was too shy to call on you under the circumstances.¹
Adeline went out this morning & interviewed the nice landlady she knows of – she has not got her best rooms vacant – they are all quite nice – but this sitting-room and bed room face north (N.B. North is sea-wards here) & there is also a bed room on the top floor which faces south.  Adeline is writing all this to Iris.

Now do let us try & arrange a meeting before long – Wed; & Thurs: are my nights in London in term time – are they ever yours?  We have just moved into a new furnished house with the above appalling name.

1. Presumably during the war when both men were stationed in France.
2. Cicely Veronica Wedgwood, Wedgwood’s daughter born in 1910 and at this time 11 years old, was to spend some time in Sheringham. VW reported on the visit in a letter to Wedgwood on 30 April (see VWL474). Veronica later became the historian Dame Veronica Wedgwood.
