Dear Sir
Your son1 was quite mistaken if he thought that I promised to take him as a pupil at the half term – I said that I would consult with Mr. Howells and see what I could do; at the same time strongly advised him to stay with Mr. Howells as he admitted he was getting on well with him. I have talked with Mr Howells and he tells me that your son is still in the elementary stages and is only taking Composition as a second study.
I am however always anxious to help young musicians and if your son likes to bring me some of his work some Wednesday when I have some free time I will look at it and criticize it.
Yours faithfully
R Vaughan Williams
1. The composer and violinist Remo Lauricella.
