RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS

Thanks you for your good wishes1

I am glad you still like Mozart – you will like him better as you grow clever[er]. I hope you will be better soon

Date from postmark. Philip Mackay was a schoolboy at boarding school, who had previously written to VW about his enthusiasm for both The Wasps and Mozart. This is confirmed in a letter at the British Library, MS Mus. 1714/1/23, f. 55, from Philip’s father Angus Mackay to John Brown at Oxford University Press. VW’s response to the first letter does not appear to be extant.
