Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Percy Grainger
Letter No.: VWL5286
The White Gates,
Dorking,
8th June, 1949.
Dear Grainger
I was much touched by your splendid letter, and I need hardly say that your opinion is very pleasing valuable to me. I think, as you say, that we work on much the same lines and that the Folk song has shown us the way.
I feel almost embarrassed about all the things you say about my Symphonies. It encourages me to go on even at my advanced years.
I received the photographs from Mr. Tunbridge for which I thank him and you very much, and my Wife will look forward to receiving the side-face print from New York.1
I shall try to send you a set of records of my new Symphony which will be coming out soon. I am not sure what the situation is with regard to sending records from here to America, but I expect the British Council can arrange it.
With kind regards from us both to both of you,
Yrs
R Vaughan Williams
(R. Vaughan Williams).
Mr. Percy Grainger,
