I have discovered an awful misprint in the Carol “Come love we God” – This is the result of those quite illegible green proofs – Please stop any further issue – I am willing to pay for a reprint – but it simply can’t go out like this.¹

1.  G.O. May had sent VW 10 advance copies of Two Carols, Catalogue of Works 1945/1, on 24th July together with an agreement, under which the royalties on VW’s instructions  were to be paid to Ursula Wood, who had adapted the words of No.1 (‘Come love we God’) and translated the words of No.2 (‘There is a flower’). A note on the letter indicates the OUP reaction: ‘Instructions given that no sales to be made. N.P.: proof attached from file 2042. Certainly not illegible. G. May’.
