Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Nancy Evans

Letter No.: VWL4481

From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.

March 28th 1954.

My dear Nancy,
Ursula tells me that you are unhappy that This Day1 and the Violin Songs2 are described as being for Soprano. But my publisher tells me that any song which goes up to high A would be most misleadingly called anything but Soprano. So if you will keep a tame high A in your kennel (and a lovely one at that) what are we to do?
Love from
Uncle Ralph
