Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Nadia Boulanger
Letter No.: VWL4256
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
Jan 19th [1937?]
Dear Mademoiselle Boulanger
This letter introduces to you still another pupil of mine Peggy Hicks
– she is very musical & has I believe a distinct gift – up to the present she has perhaps been occupied too much with the romantic and not the formal aspect of music – but she realizes that romance alone will not do – she is a charming person and a very hard worker & most intelligent
Yrs very sincerely
R Vaughan Williams

General Notes:
Date added in another hand – ‘1934?’ – but more likely to follow VWL4257 from use of the phrase ‘another pupil of mine’, and the fact that Hicks went to Paris in 1937, after four years at the Royal College of Music with VW and then a year in Vienna.
