Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Mrs Blanning

Letter No.: VWL5174

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

March 16th 1953

Dear Mrs Blassing,1
So far as I can remember I used to take “Sound sleep” at [crotchet] = about 60 and the animato in the middle not much quicker; but one cannot possibly advise from a distance on a point like this. The only thing to do is for the conductor to take it at that pace where the music in his opinion sounds best.
Yours sincerely,
R Vaughan Williams
