Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Miss Piper

Letter No.: VWL4066

The White Gates

April 24 [1942]

Dear Miss Piper
Owing to illness of Mr Cave[?], “Rossendale” is unable to undertake fire watching. I therefore must ask you and your sister to take over one of their days. I have put you down for Sunday June 21. Please do not answer if this is all right
Yrs sincerely
R Vaughan Williams

PS. The stirrup pump squad on the day would be BATUMERAH1

1. Rossendale and Batumerah were local homes. VW was responsible for organising firewatching in his area during the war.
