Jan 30 [1956]
Dear Michael
In great haste I hasten to correct one error in your splendid article – I have decided to keep the Cor Anglais for the obbligati (after all this is a substitute).1
I can keep viola at Dorking – but have not the courage in Manchester
RVW
1. Michael Kennedy had sent VW the text of an article for The Hallé Magazine about VW’s approach to the St. Matthew Passion, which he was to conduct at Manchester with the Hallé on 18th March. It was his practice in the annual performances at Dorking to substitute a viola, played by Jean Stewart, for the oboe d’amore.
