From R. Vaughan Williams,

Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.

January 3rd [1958]

Dear Michael & Eslyn

Thank you both for your beautiful letter of friendship.  I will not say more now except to tell you that Malcolm is having a run-through of the new symph. on March 21st at St Pancras Town Hall at 2.30. and he says I may invite some friends, so do you and Eslyn come if you possibly can.1
I know exactly where En Saga ought to have stopped.  The rest is a great pity as the two ladies said of the lower part of Botticelli’s Venus in Forster’s novel.2
Love from us both

1.  Malcolm Sargent’s rehearsal of the Ninth Symphony (CW 1957/3) is described in RVW p.390 and WVW p.342.
2.  VW is referring to Sibelius’s Op. 9.  The Forster reference is to A Room with a View.
