Doris & Simon[?] came in & told me the dreadful news about Cecil Sharp house – Do tell me what is happening about it.2
Will you consider going back on the committee in this crisis?3

1. Honorine Williamson, a young relative who had lived with the VWs for several years, had been killed in an air raid on 2 September 1940. VW had asked Ursula Wood on 7 September to tell Karpeles the news (see VWL1437).
2. Cecil Sharp House, the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society, was bombed in September 1940.
3. Karpeles had resigned from the committee of the English Folk Dance and Song Society in 1936 after a disagreement with the Director, Douglas Kennedy.
