[mid-August 1934]
Dear Maud
How nice of you to write – & of the school to send me their message. I was much interested to hear of the school – & its splendid I think that you are really in charge now – that’s what I’ve always wanted – I wish you would preach a sermon to us one day.
I am just beginning to walk about now & am to be allowed to go to Bournemouth to conduct next week.
Yrs

P.S. I see I did not say that we go to B’mouth on Monday to lounge in a smart Hotel for a few days by way of recuperating – so alas! we must put off meeting

Date estimated from reference to recuperating from an abscess on his ankle in 1934. He intended to conduct the London Symphony on 22 August, but was indisposed and Dan Godfrey conducted instead.
