The White Gates,
Dorking,

3rd. August, 1949.

CONFIDENTIAL

Dear Miss Glasgow,

I understand that the Arts Council are soon to be asked for financial support to a scheme at Cambridge in which I am personally interested.1
That being so, I think it is imperative that I should retire from the Council. Anyhow, I am getting old and lazy and find it very difficult to attend meetings.
Yours sincerely,

R. Vaughan Williams

(R. Vaughan Williams).

Miss Glasgow,
Secretary General,
Arts Council,
4, St. James’ Square, S.W.1.

1.  A scheme to give the first performance of The Pilgrim’s Progress at Cambridge – see VWL3113.
