Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Mary Carter

Letter No.: VWL5130

The White Gates,
Dorking,

29th July, 1948.

Dear Mary
I am making out the programme for the concert on October 25th.1 I shall ask you to play about half an hour’s music. (Less rather than more)2 Can you tell me how long the Ivy Herbert work plays? I think there will be room for one more short thing and should very much like to have the Finzi, but it occurs to me that it is so very short that you could hardly appear on the platform and play that only. You would be off again almost before you were on!
Will you let me know what you think about it?
Love Uncle Ralph
(R. Vaughan Williams).

Miss Mary Carter,
11, Bulstrode Street,
London, W.1.
