My Dear Martin
My very best wishes to you both & to the new son.1  I shall be proud to be his unofficial sponsor.  But surely you don’t want me to be a real pukka Godfather.  I see from the prayer book that I shall have to promise to do all sorts of things for him that it wd go bad against my conscience to make him do – why, I should be knocking you up at all hours of the night to find out if he knew his catechism!
